The Society has been working together for the last ten years. Raising awareness about health and effective behavior change is a slow and continuous process. In comparison to other development related activities, tangible benefits are perceived by the community quite late in a project cycle. Sexuality and reproductive health issues were once considered taboo subjects and were rarely discussed openly within households. Hence, it was difficult for organizations to start discussions on health issues with women. Health issues were not considered a prioritized need among poor communities, as they were not directly linked with economic benefits. Group formation and society networking took longer than expected and sustaining group interest over a long period became difficult. However, once women started reporting positive changes in their lives through group participation, the networking process became more focused and cohesive.
Since the programme is designed to benefit the community, the role of the community in implementation and benefit transfer has been ensured from the beginning. Community participation helps ensure that the programme reaches the targeted groups effectively. The organization motivates and encourages local people to become active partners in the programme.
We maintain close relations with officials concerned with various projects and programmes. Government officials regularly visit to monitor programmes funded by different departments and ministries. We are also invited at district and state levels to participate and contribute in formal meetings organized by government departments.
We are not working with external donors. We receive grant-in-aid support from district authorities, state government, and the Government of India.
We maintain a strong level of public relations in our working areas and regularly organize discussion meetings to strengthen our relationship with the public.
Many programmes run by the organization are advocacy based. Advocacy-oriented programmes are planned and implemented on important social issues such as child labour, child rights, trafficking of women and girls, migrant labour, land rights, health awareness, and environmental protection.
